I'm just seeing this thread for the first time, but I was going to comment that it could either be a failure in the VTM-4 system OR a different failure that has disabled the VTM-4 system causing the light to illuminate. In your case, it was obviously the latter. So, this turned out to be a bad left front (wheel) sensor. Because the sensor was completely shot, the computer interpreted that as having mulitple issues with that wheel, which is why it threw an ABS (braking), VTM-4 (variable transmission4-wheel drive) and the VSA light (stability), all of these lights get tripped when the sensor is bad.
