When I put the airbag light in to diagnostic mode using the reset procedure I get 1 blink and a pause followed by two more blinks and the sequence repeats.

I'd be surprised if Nissan's SRS module "communicates" with OBD2. I replaced the airbag on an F150 and it was $90 at the Ford dealer to enable it.
