The game will never tell you outright if you're infected. The infected condition on a wound means the wound is infected, not that you've been infected. Sometimes I think the devs should change it, but the confusion around it adds to the atmosphere of game.

After 1400+ hours in Zomboid, my method to healing wounds is to put a bandage on it and remove it later when I remember it's even there. Lacerations just take longer to heal than scratches. You do not need anything more than a decent bandage, be aware of any infection (not z-virus) and stay healthy.
