To disable it properly, you must press the brake pedal during or after starting the car, and before moving the gear lever. So - I don't know what that fuse actually disables! But the VDC being disabled must be a side-effect of the fuse removal rather than caused by the actual fuse being removed. Spudder.

I read up on that procedure and it requires you to push the trunk and lock at the same time just to disable the keyless access to the doors, not the push button start. I'm still trying to wrap my head around these. Subaru service got a hold of it and couldn't find anything wrong with it.

That way, if the car washer sprays the inside of the windshield when cleaning the interior, the cameras don't get sprayed. I've done this a few times and it works well.
Ordered one of the A.S.S. eliminators, and on a nice warm (55°F) afternoon a couple weeks ago, I took the dash and Eyesight assemblies apart and disconnected things. In the process, the Driver Monitor assembly needed to be removed, and I simply (er, um) forgot to re-connect it when I put things back together.
The ECU will start relearn once the battery is connected and the car is started. Just be aware that throttle response might be down a little until it relearns all of it's parameters. This typically takes about 50 miles but it may take up to 100 miles.
