They might be a little heavy for the beginning shooter,but I have started my son,2 grandsons, 2 granddaughters, and will 1 more granddaughter on them. Purchased each their own. Most of them don't know that there are well over 3 million 795's out there. And the current mags fit the old Model 70 Marlins (pre-Clinton Gun-ban) as well.
