I feel you have a temp blend door actuator going bad. You have one on each side of the HVAC case. These are small plastic motors with plastic gearing inside, When going bad they will develop a stripped gear and sound like clicking or light knocking behind the dash. No way to say which one unless you isolate kind of left of radio or right of radio.
