New member. Had a similar problem on my 6x4 gator--sounded like piston rattle. thought it was a secondary clutch, but finally figured out it was the drive chains slapping because they were loose. Tightened up and greased and now quiet. sounded like a big bucks problem, but fixed with a little wrenching.The best and simplest way to determine whether or not the alternator is charging is to use a voltmeter across the battery terminals. Operating the Gator for extended periods in high gear or not using low when climbing hills can lead to belt failure. Additionally a sticking clutch can cause premature wear on the belt, overtime this certainly could cause belt failure.

The solution for this was to remove the spider from the clutch half and leave the main part of the clutch stuck on the engine crankshaft. If you use the right spider tool, it is rated for impact wrenches, so you can put that on and wail on it until it backs off, replaced the buttons and re-install. Herminator.
Help please - Linear actuator problem. I have an '02 4X2 with an actuator problem. The thing stopped working, but I didn't. I just unloaded a couple more loads with a shovel to finish the job. The next day when I took a look at it, I find that it came apart stripping the threads out of the housing and spilling the gears somewhere in the yard.

The fuel regulator inside the fuel tank is causing this problem.The regulator is plastic and will warp causing fuel to leak by and reduce fuel pressure during startup.Your dealer should know about this problem (there is a service bulliton on it) and will be able to fix it.

The water hydraulically pushes the clutch off. There are plenty of videos on the web showing how it is done on snowmobiles. (They are a bit easier to tip so the water stays in the blind hole. General steps: 1. Remove clutch bolt. 2. Tip gator so water will stay in thread hole. 3.It sounds very much like the clutch is sticking and not releasing, but it could indeed be the inner bearing as you describe if it is a late enough model to have one. The RESULT of the problem is the bad belt, but the belt itself is not the CAUSE of the problem.Try throughly cleaning both clutch's with hot soapy water and or non chlorinated brake cleaner followed by compressed air.
