An electronic supplier from OH includes a new external resistor w/his kits. However, a supplier from VA includes a coil with a built-in resistor. Now, 20 yrs from now, I don't know how you'd identify that coil has the built in resistor. I plan on removing the gawdy decals & I'm not sure it can be remembered as having one built in.

Member. Hey guys! So the 656 I'm working on has been converted to electronic ignition (pertronix ignitor). This was done shortly after the owner noticed it was running poorly and lacking power. Just recently purchased a Farmall 460 gas thats in need of a good tune up as it sputters and the points are terribly corroded. I've had good luck with pertronix ignitors in the past so im looking to put one on the 460 and possibly also my 560.
The stock breaker point and coil system is more than adequate for the ignition needs of a Farmall C. Were it mine I'd leave the ignition "as is" and save your money. For a 12 volt conversion, again the stock 6 volt system maintained good condition is entirely adequate for a Farmall C.

Pull coil wire out of cap and hold it 1/4 inch from good clean metal and rotate dist advance direction (opposite way rotor turns) until you get a spark. A magneto produces greater spark voltage as speed increases. Battery ignition produces greatest spark voltage at slow speeds. IH used lots of Delco electrics on the tractors. Chevrolets of the Cub era also used Delco and a spark plug gap of 0.035. My 12 volt conversions and the one electronic ignition conversion are run with 0.035 plug gaps.
