Cvt whining noise.

Bought my MY16 new. Intermittent whining noise. Dealer checked it out and said no problems found. Now I'm going on 6 years of ownership with absolutely no problems. I did have the CVT serviced at between 55 to 60k to the protest of the service advisor saying it didn't need it until 100k. I could tell the CVT was happier after the service.Runs and drives great, but I've noticed a slight whine after the car warms up for awhile (around 30+ minutes into a drive). It seems to be RPM dependent, and it occurs in any gear (park, reverse, drive, neutral). It sounds like the "CVT whine," albeit a bit quieter, but since it also occurs in neutral, I'm not sure. From your description of the whining sound, it well could be a worn chain in the CVT. To enhance longevity, the CVT fluid should always be replaced every 30,000 mi.When the fluid stays in too long, the chemical properties of the fluid get compromised and it can no longer provide that cushion that's so needed between the steel belt and the cones.

They are, mines a 2020 XLE 1.8 and still makes that noise, but its quieter than previous models Corollas. For the record I do a quick drain and fill on my CVT every year (about 10K). It cost about $80 bucks and is worth every penny. I also recommend running the level on the low side around 22mm-25mm. If you're getting a CVT whining noise after 20-30 minutes of driving. replace your bypass valve. Or remove it altogether.
