The thermostat does not know if the filter is bad or not. The filter signal is just a reminder based on a timer. The thermostat has a timer that once satisfied just says check filter as a reminder. The furnace is fine....the reminder will just reset and then go off again in the future.The thermostat has issues (Infinity Touch) but a replacement is $1000.
