Pyromancy, like other casting builds is about timing and unpredictability. I still use sacred flame as my switch up when red phantoms feel comfortable getting close. Dont just stick to range, mix it up with melee and range. Demon's scar is probably the go to in any Pyromancy build because it lets you switch it up from melee to ranged attacks.
