Most places require at least a 2 hour heads up for a callout. They cannot consider it a no call, no show if you give them a considerable amount of heads up time. But on the same coin, they can fire you if it's an "at will" state (I'm in VA). Its shitty but they can fire you for just about anything if they want to.
