406 sbc vs 383. Things To Know About 406 sbc vs 383.

Now that you said that, I would go with a gen 1 sbc. I am all about the ls engines. They are quiet smooth and dont seem that radical, Compared to a gen 1 sbc at the same horsepower rating. I would do a stroker gen 1 sbc based off a dart shp block. $1200 with all the maching done ready to assemble. 3.85 stroke crank with a 6" rod.The Brodix 227 head is probably going to make about the same power as the AFR 220 head. Instead of changing heads, I'd spend the money on a better carb and a better ignition system. If you have an old carb, I'd get the new Holly Ultra 950 for your motor. It might make another 10 to 15 hp more than an old carb, maybe more.I have a 7500 rpm 383 ci and now I also have a 7000 rpm 427 ci small block. I'd never build another sub 396 ci motor again. Your not going to beat the 434/427 small block with a 377 if you have correct gearing. Lets say that motor "A" 377 makes an average of 500 foot pounds of TQ from 3500 - 7500 and Motor "B" 434 makes 520 lbs from 2500 to 6500.speedracer119. Posts: 67. Re: SBC 383 vs. SBC 400 (Jenny) I'd probably go for the 383 unless I already had access to a good 400 block. The 23 extra cubes of the 406 (a 400 block with a .030 overbore like the 383) should yield a nearly proportionate power increase but I don't think it would be that noticible a difference unless measured on a dyno or at the strip. Both are 406 SBC with AFR 23 degree heads, one hyd roller the other is solid roller. Both are 10.4 to 1 CR and run fine on 91 octane at 2800 ft altitude. I don't spin them much over 7k RPM. I drive the solid roller cam car (262/269 @ 050) around town with lots of idle time in gear and slow cruise speeds with no issues. Here's my input on a MILD street 383 with an honest 400+ HP: TFS 23* heads 64cc chambers. 10.3:1 compression KB -12cc dish pistons (or -18cc pistons for 9.5:1 if you want a cam that is less than 270* on the seat) Performer RPM intake. This cam might not sound like you want it though.

(pat)>> you've asked for it and you have been waiting for its return, the small block chevy build we named "in house power mouse". it's a two stage build that started off as a bare bones budget extravaganza out of the summit racing catalog. Re: 383 vs 400+ Engines 03-07-03 04:59 PM - Post# 191042 In response to The_Stupid_One Somehow I fail to see the 383's making more power than the 400's. AFR's website has their 400+ inch packages making 50 horses more. With EA3.0, the same package with 383 cubic inches is an average of 26#ft lower on torque and an average of 17 hp less.

The Blueprint Engines horsepower rating between the 383 (430 HP/450 ft/lbs) and 396 (485 HP/500 ft/lbs) small blocks are 55 HP and 50 ft/lbs difference. If you're not familiar with the 400/406 engine, do an internet search on SBC 400/406 vs 383 or 350, and you will be convinced of the difference. There is no inherent weakness in the 400/406 engine when using a Dart high performance block. These engines are built to last and these blocks have plenty of room for additional rebuilds if needed.Jan 14, 2009 · Just look at the heads on a big block compared to the small block. 3) if there is any bit of core shift, you WILL grind thru to the water jacket on a 396. 4) more parts options with a 383 (especially pistons). So, the verdict for me was: to go with a fully forged 383 with a good package. Aim for optimum cam and heads. A 350, 355, 383, or a 400. Should I build a high reving 355. I saw a article about a 400 bored over, 327 or 350 rods, and custom pistons that made above 400 hp & torque on the dyno. Or, should I go for cubic inches and build the 400 small block, with the ever popular controversy of the over-heating problem. The 396 SBC stroker is rather in-depth to build, it requires more carefully checked clearance and clearance grinding on the block, definitely needs a stroker clearance connecting rod, is best built on the later roller block due to block clearancing concerns, and should have a special small journal rod journal crank and connecting rod just to ...When it comes to people pushing the frontiers of science, few institutions can match the talent of the Department of Defense, the intelligence agencies and the U.S. national labora...
